The Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Transformation
The master bathroom is more than just a functional space—it’s a personal sanctuary. So when a dated, builder-grade bathroom needed a complete overhaul, our goal was clear: to transform it into a modern farmhouse retreat that was both stylish and highly functional. The original room was a classic example of builder-grade design from a bygone era, with low cabinetry, an unused tub, and a distinct lack of character.
The Problem: A Room that Lacked Purpose and Style
The existing bathroom was filled with outdated, impractical features. The low cabinetry was visually unappealing and offered little functionality. A large, unused tub took up valuable space, and the open water closet lacked privacy. Outdated mirrors and lighting fixtures contributed to an uninspired atmosphere, and the entire space felt disjointed. It was time for a full-scale renovation to bring it into the 21st century.
The Solution: A Strategic Gut & Thoughtful Redesign
We began with a full gut renovation to completely reimagine the space. The homeowners wanted a seamless shower entry, but we opted for a more cost-effective curb, allowing us to invest more in the finishes. For the floors, we chose a Tuscan-inspired tile to lay the foundation for the room's character. In the shower, we used classic white subway tile, a timeless choice that complements the modern farmhouse feel. To maintain an open, airy atmosphere, we designed an open shower concept with a large glass panel, which eliminated the need for a door and created a clean, seamless look.
To add depth and character, the large vanity was replaced with two individual, vintage-style vanities in a warm wood tone. We then added sleek, white quartz countertops for a modern contrast. The water closet was enclosed for added privacy, and an extra-large, high-gloss white medicine cabinet was installed for much-needed storage.
The final details were all about contrast and texture. We chose brushed nickel for the faucets and showerhead, adding a touch of modern sophistication. Black mirrors and lighting fixtures were introduced to create a bold, graphic contrast against the warmer wood tones and white tile. To ensure a cohesive feel throughout the home, the guest bathroom was also renovated with the same materials.
The final result is a master bathroom that is a testament to the power of thoughtful design—a space that is now a functional, private, and stylish retreat.
